Good Morning Foodies,
If you’re a New Yorker like me and Joanna, you sure could use a vacation somewhere warm and sunny after this blizzard! While we can’t offer you a free trip yet (we’ll get there), we’re delighted to give you a warm taste of the sunny Middle East with this week’s product.
This Week’s Wellness Radar: Seed + Mill Tahini
Why we love it? Who doesn’t love a creamy, delicious spread, with wonderful health benefits nonetheless! Here’s what made sesame seeds (tahini’s primary ingredient) Harvard Health’s seed of the month:
They’re rich in unsaturated fats, considered beneficial for their ability to improve cholesterol levels, lower inflammation, and stabilize heart rhythms
They contain additional heart healthy plant compounds known as phytosterols, which also help the body naturally regulate cholesterol
They’re a great source of plant-based protein
How we enjoy it? Drizzle it over roasted cauliflower, bake it into tahini chocolate chip cookies (Joanna’s favorite), mix it into hummus, or dip fresh veggies into it for a snack.
Where to get it? Straight from the site or from your local grocery store.
Fun fact: Female-founded by Lisa, Rachel, and Monica, Seed + Mill launched here in New York City with a small kiosk at Chelsea Market in 2016.
…And now for dessert, some tasty industry news:
Nestle made a multi-hundred million dollar commitment to improve the sustainability of its coffee, as well as the lives of its farmers (more here)
Many popular baby food brands have been found to be contaminated with toxic heavy metals, according to an investigation by Congress published in the WSJ
