The Crave #4: Prevail Jerky
Dear Food Friends,
Joanna here, happy Sunday morning! I had never been a big jerky aficionado—rather, I was a little weirded out by it. In my eyes, it’s always been a plastic-wrapped, rubbery meat filled with preservatives, often found at the checkout of a gas station.
But then I found Prevail. Pure ingredients, enticing texture, delicious taste…
Cue this Week’s Wellness Radar: Prevail Jerky
Why we love it? The star ingredient: protein, which energizes us and plays a key role in muscle-building (and maintenance), as cited by Harvard Medical School. Animal protein contains all essential amino acids that your body needs to function optimally, but not all animal protein is created equal:
Regarding beef, the goal is to find “grass-fed.” Why? Dr. Mark Hyman of the Cleveland Clinic states, “three decades of research prove grass-fed beef [is] significantly healthier than grain-fed, factory-farmed meat. Grass-fed meat has much better types of fat than grain-fed—more omega-3s, fewer omega-6s, and more CLA...which boosts metabolism and can prevent cancer. Grass-fed meat also has higher levels of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients.”
Prevail’s beef is 100% grass-fed and contains no added hormones or antibiotics. Their goods are clean label, meaning no additives like processed sugars, oils, or nitrates, which are often found in conventional jerky. It’s soy-free, gluten free, and celiac approved. Oh, and it’s even paleo and keto ;)
How we enjoy it? Prevail makes for an ideal travel snack. Joanna brought a pack with her on her last flight, and the jerky kept her fully satiated throughout her travels. The packets are easy to slide into your bag for tasty fuel on-the-go.
Where to buy it? Straight from the site.
Fun fact: Family-founded in order to address the statistic that 32 million Americans suffer from food allergies. The Prevail family is among that group, so they sought to provide allergen-friendly, delicious products to market.
…And now for dessert, some tasty industry news:
Hu, one of our favorite go-to chocolate brands, just got acquired by Mondelez for $340M. Congrats to founders Jessica, Jordan & Jason!
Siggi’s is offering a “palate training kit” to help curb and reduce sugar intake, in-line with increased consumer demand for healthier CPG.
Have you hopped on the #plantbased bandwagon? Beyond Meat & Pepsi Co just joined forces to provide more plant-based variety for consumers.
